A soft, buttery loaf that tastes like an old-fashioned cinnamon sugar donut — with a tender crumb and sweet crunchy topping.
Ingredients
For the Bread
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
1. Prepare the Pan
Preheat oven to:
- 350°F (175°C)
Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl whisk together:
- flour
- baking powder
- baking soda
- salt
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
3. Cream Butter & Sugar
In another bowl beat:
- butter
- sugar
until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time.
Mix in vanilla.
4. Combine Batter
Alternate adding:
- dry ingredients
- buttermilk
Mix just until combined.
Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
5. Bake
Bake for:
- 45–55 minutes
until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then remove.
6. Add Cinnamon Sugar Coating
Brush warm loaf with melted butter.
Mix sugar and cinnamon together.
Sprinkle or roll the loaf in cinnamon sugar until fully coated.
Optional Variations
- Add mini chocolate chips
- Swirl cinnamon sugar inside batter
- Drizzle with vanilla glaze
